Do you trick people into buying your wears or do you have a way of making people want to buy from you out of shear desire? This blog is about cultivating desire rather than trickery. When you cultivate desire in your potential customers they will become ultra valuable to your business.
This is where I discussed why we went from multiple social logins to HootSuite and this is how HootSuite turned me from feeling desire to feeling tricked. I signed up to the HootSuite Pro package. I have a problem their product can solve. I’d heard great things from my trusted circle and got on really well with their brand style and communication tools.
An obvious place to start was the ‘Learn the Basics Video’. I discovered HootSuite University. Fantastic. I am a paying customer and I feel valued.
I now love HootSuite. They thought about my needs. They’re going to teach me everything I need to know about their product to be uber successful at managing my social media accounts. I am literally on the verge of swearing my allegiance to HootSuite forever. I can see they take care of their customers. They take care of me. This has been sn excellent start.
Now the BUT. Don’t you just hate it when there is a BUT.
Hoot200 where art thou? And there’s the trick. Desire, love and commitment plummet in seconds.
Hoot200 and onwards is part of HootSuite University which is $21 a month. But I thought HootSuite cared and thought about my needs? I thought they were going to lead me towards vowing never to leave them.
Alas, Hoot100 was a carrot. In fact, not a carrot, but a delicious tub of Haagen Daaz Cookies and Cream ice cream. In Hoot100 they mention Hoot200 as if it was available to me, especially for me, their valued customer.
I can subscribe to HootSuite University for $21 a month. That is not the problem. But the way I discovered this trick is tragic for my young and fragile relationship with HootSuite. With rose tinted glasses (because I was in love) I thought the HooteSuite style was to provide an excellent product with the training and support I needed to become a pro user so I never have to consider another provider over the lifetime of my company’s needs.
By shattering my desire and showing me what I perceive to be an ugly trick, I am looking at alternatives to HootSuite. Will I sign up for HootSuite University or search the web for community generated tutorials? Will I walk away or work out this fledgling relationship? I’m not sure just yet.
Can you take a lesson from this? Make people want to pay you rather than tricking them into having to part with their money. Cultivate desire rather than trickery. When you cultivate desire in your potential customers they will become ultra valuable to your business.
